Automated wooden gates are currently all the rage, and when you stop and think about it, this has been true for literally centuries upon centuries. OK, obviously back then, the gates had to be operated manually as there wasn’t electricity like there is now, but even so, wooden gates in general, have been popular for many, many years, and that doesn’t look set to change anytime soon.
If you’re on the lookout for a set of automated gates, automated wooden gates should be pretty high up on your list of priorities, as not only do they look great, but they are also extremely functional as well. The main problem that people have when it comes to purchasing automated wooden gates, however, is the fact that they aren’t quite sure where to begin. There are many different types of wood, and there are many different types of design, so what should you choose? Well, to help make your decision that little bit easier, here’s a handy guide based upon purchasing automated wooden gates.
Know Which Wood you Want
Before you decide on which wood you would prefer for your gates, it is important to consider a number of other factors. For example, when you have your gates, do you want to stain them, wax them, varnish them, or paint them? This is very important because certain woods can only be treated in a certain way. Softwood gates for example, are generally cheaper and more economical, due largely to the fact that the wood isn’t as tough or as durable as hardwood. Hardwood, as you can probably guess, is more expensive, but it is much harder and tougher, so it can withstand more punishment.
Consider the Weather
OK, here in the UK, whilst our weather doesn’t vary too much from location to location, some parts are still more prone to bad weather than others. Many Western parts of the country for example, see some wetter and more severe weather, as it comes in off of the Atlantic. Northern parts are generally colder, and southern parts are milder. If you live somewhere where there is an abundance of rain on a regular basis, you will need a wood that can withstand wet weather, plus you’ll need to ensure that you treat it and weatherproof it, in order to leave it looking and functioning at its best.
Customized or Mass Produced
Finally, another thing you will need to consider in regards to your automated wooden gates, is whether or not you want your gates custom-made, or whether you simply wish to go with mass produced gates. Mass produced gates are obviously going to be cheaper, and they will be ready right away, but they aren’t ideal if you’re looking to be unique and to express your individuality. Custom made gates however, can be designed however you would like, so you can use whichever woods and materials you like, whichever designs, and whichever finishes. Obviously the experts making the gates will be able to help and advise you, but for the most part, you get to design your ultimate garden gates.
